St. Michaels Home at Axbridge 1878 - 1968

Brenda Anderson has been researching the history of the St. Michaels Home at Axbridge, which was originally built as a convalescent home for tuberculosis sufferers. Following an excellent presentation on this at out February 2013 meeting, Brenda has kindly produced an illustrated summary of her findings which makes for very interesting reading. It can be viewed HERE

Inventory of Cheddar Graveyards - Brenda Anderson

Update 16th September 2012 - Brenda has now completed the considerable task of transcribing the burial records for St. Andrews parish church, which she had to do from photographs from the screen of a fiche reader! Well done Brenda! Her record covers the period 1858 to 1920/21 and for the benefit of family historians has been listed in alphabetical order. It can be viewed HERE

Part of our project was to get to know the people who were living in Cheddar in the Victorian times. The Census records are one source and the burial records are another. John Reeves of the Baptist Church and Hugh Alsop of the Methodist Church kindly sent me their records, which can be viewed by clicking on the links below. I am informed that deceased persons were buried in the St. Andrew's churchyard up to 1921. and this in my next quest.
